Why is my DOCX file failing to upload for QuickSign?

Modified on Thu, Aug 29 at 3:02 PM

If a DOCX file is failing to upload to QuickSign, this could indicate that the document contains embedded images of unsupported filetypes. Specifically, you will want to determine if the document contains any .EMF or .EMZ images, which are unsupported by Docubee.

How to check if your document contains .EMF / .EMZ images:

  1. Open the document in MS Word
  2. File > Save As
  3. In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select "Web Page"
    • This will save the document as an HTML file, along with a new folder named "{filename}_files"
  4. Open the newly created folder to see the embedded files contained in your document
  5. If you see any .EMF or .EMZ files (as shown below), this is the reason that the document fails to upload to QuickSign:

Why did this happen, and how can I ensure my document does not contain any unsupported EMF / EMZ images?

.EMZ files are compressed versions of Enhanced Metafiles (.emf), which can sometimes be created when you copy and paste images directly into a Word document, particularly when using the Clipboard.

To prevent this from happening when creating a word document for QuickSign, instead of copying and pasting images directly into your Word document, use the Insert tab in Word:

  • Go to Insert > Pictures > This Device and then select your .jpg or .png file.

This method ensures that the image retains its original format without being converted to .EMZ.

What if my document doesn't contain any .EMF / .EMZ images, and still fails to upload?

A workaround to get the document to upload successfully is to convert your DOCX file into a PDF. This should resolve the "failing to upload" error.
